How to flour a cake pan

We thought we'd start a new category called "cooking 101",  where we'll share basic cooking tips and tricks.  Great for the beginning cook or us "seasoned veterans", who are looking for a new way to do things.  You can click on this category in our label section on the side bar to get all the posts.  I'm kicking it off with, how to grease and flour a cake pan.  When a recipe calls for a pan to be greased, you can coat the inside of it with a cooking spray or pour a little cooking oil on the pan and spread it around with a paper towel or take a tablespoon of Crisco and spread it around with a paper towel.

When flouring a pan, spread out a thin layer of Crisco on the bottom and sides of pan.  Sprinkle on about 1/4 cup flour.

Over your sink, tilt the pan from one side to the other, while tapping it with your hand on the side of the pan.

Keep turning and tapping until the surface is covered.

Dump any excess flour in the sink and tap one more time to release any built up globs of flour.  Then you'll have a nicely floured pan.
